Dr. David James

About this speaker

Dr. David James is a software engineer, researcher and musician, who focuses on the intersection between art, black music and computing. Over the past 12 years he has developed and published techniques to teach fundamental Computer Science courses by building hip hop instruments like turntables, drum machines, and samplers. David, a native of Brooklyn,NY, has earned a PhD and a Master’s degree in Information Science and Technology from Syracuse University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has created computer science courses integrated with Black music at Loyola University Maryland, George Washington University and Spelman College.
