About this Program
Hip-hop was born on the streets of New York in the 1970s and 1980s as an outsider movement. Tracksuits, chains, and Kangol hats were part of an early hip-hop uniform that has evolved and changed over the years and now dominates mainstream and high fashion.
Interested in learning more? Join us on the evening of Wednesday, March 29th, as MODA, Dr. Courtney A. Hammonds (The Dean of Fashion), and others present a conversation about the evolution of hip-hop fashion.
The conversation will take place in MODA’s galleries, where the exhibition Close to the Edge: The Birth of Hip-Hop Architecture is currently on view.
