Women in Hip-Hop & Social Media

A Program featuring SenYon Kelly and Medusa the Gangsta Goddess

Program Hosted By

About this Program

Join us as we explore the legacy and impact of women in hip-hop with a live discussion led by SenYon Kelly and Medusa the Gangsta Goddess. Over the last couple of years, several social media accounts and platforms have popped up creating spaces that spark high-level discussion and trends centered around female rap.

SenYon Kelly, owner of Nubian Video Archives & Collectibles, is a serial entrepreneur, producer, researcher, and collector of music and movie memorabilia. She is also the Operations Manager and curator for Universal Hip Hop Museum located in Bronx, New York. Joining her will be Medusa the Gangsta Goddess, often referred to as the "Godmother of West Coast Hip Hop." Medusa is a respected Hip Hop artist who makes scenes as a performer and an educator. Medusa’s experiences as a queer Hip Hop artist reframe and expand our understanding of the influence of women and women of color musicians and performers on the creation of community, social activism and popular music aesthetics. This program will take place in-person and streamed live online.

Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. Please register every individual in your party, including kids. This will be used to save your spots in the program. We cannot guarantee availability for any unregistered attendees. This program will also be live streamed to our YouTube Channel at YouTube.com/LACountyLibrary

*This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
